Who is ya girl, you might ask? (Well, it’s me, of course, but I get what you mean.)
My name is Sarah Beard, and I’m the new student liaison for the NY Arts Program. Throughout the semester, I’ll be keeping you up to date on the goings-on in program events, shedding a well-deserved spotlight on my fellow students, and maybe even posting a few more personal pieces if it strikes my fancy. Who am I to say what the future holds?
So, a little about me! I’m a senior at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, and I’ll be graduating in May with a BA in Communication Studies (and a minor in Theatre!). I’m doing two internships through NY Arts: one with the Greenpoint Film Festival, and the other with the communications department at Roulette Intermedium.
As for the girl behind the student, I’m a small town girl from Corsicana, Texas, but I’m adjusting nicely to the city. I like to play video games and tabletop RPGs with friends in my free time, and I’m deeply fond of all things Disney. (That picture up there was taken at the recently closed Mickey The True Original exhibition!) I also enjoy writing, and I am highly invested in social justice issues.
I’m no stranger to the city, but having the opportunity to live here has really cemented my love for New York and everything it has to offer. I’m excited that I get to share this journey with you all! I’ve already learned so much about myself in the short time I’ve been here, and I’m certain my fellow students could easily say the same. To quote Mary Poppins (and Bert, of course):
Broaden your horizons, open different doors, You may find a you there that you never knew was yours! Anything can happen if you let it.
