NYAP Documentary Screening

The NYAP interns were honored to welcome Rebecca Messner, an independent filmmaker, this past Tuesday to watch a special screening of her first documentary, Olmsted and America's Urban Parks (narrated by Kerry Washington and Kevin Kline!). The documentary tracks Frederick Olmsted's life and career as one of the most important landscape architects and urban planners of America. After the screening, Rebecca took the time to answer questions about the making of the documentary, what she learned about Frederick Olmsted, and her journey in the film industry.

Rebecca majored in Creative Writing at Johns Hopkins University and has produced several other documentaries, including The Good Breast and Devoti Tutti. She has also worked in finance and strategy roles for FilmNation Entertainment and Walt Disney Animation Studios, and is currently pursuing an MBA at NYU Stern School of Business.

It was wonderful to listen to Rebecca's story and learn about her identities as a filmmaker, artist, and businesswoman. As several of us are hoping to pursue careers in the arts, and some specifically in film, we loved hearing her insight and advice.  Thank you so much, Rebecca, for taking the time to talk to us!
